【摘要】:Thesetestmethodsapplytoone-dimensional,laminarflowofwaterwithinporousmaterialssuchassoilandrock.Thehydraulicconductivityofporousmaterialsgenerallydecreaseswithanincreasingamountofairintheporesofthematerial.Thesetestmethodsapplytowater-saturatedporousmaterialscontainingvirtuallynoair.Thesetestmethodsapplytopermeationofporousmaterialswithwater.Permeationwithotherliquids,suchaschemicalwastes,canbeaccomplishedusingproceduressimilartothosedescribedinthesetestmethods.However,thesetestmethodsareonlyintendedtobeusedwhenwateristhepermeantliquid.SeeSection6.Darcy''slawisassumedtobevalidandthehydraulicconductivityisessentiallyunaffectedbyhydraulicgradient.Thesetestmethodsprovideameansfordetermininghydraulicconductivityatacontrolledlevelofeffectivestress.Hydraulicconductivityvarieswithvaryingvoidratio,whichchangeswhentheeffectivestresschanges.Ifthevoidratioischanged,thehydraulicconductivityofthetestspecimenwilllikelychange,seeAppendixX2.Todeterminetherelationshipbetweenhydraulicconductivityandvoidratio,thehydraulicconductivitytestwouldhavetoberepeatedatdifferenteffectivestresses.Thecorrelationbetweenresultsobtainedusingthesetestmethodsandthehydraulicconductivitiesofin-placefieldmaterialshasnotbeenfullyinvestigated.Experiencehassometimesshownthathydraulicconductivitiesmeasuredonsmalltestspecimensarenotnecessarilythesameaslarger-scalevalues.Therefore,theresultsshouldbeappliedtofieldsituationswithcautionandbyqualifiedpersonnel.Inmostcases,whentestinghighswellpotentialmaterialsandusingaconstant-volumehydraulicsystem,theeffectiveconfiningstressshouldbeabout1.5timestheswellpressureofthetestspecimenorastresswhichpreventsswelling.Iftheconfiningstressislessthantheswellpressure,anomalousflowconditionsmyoccur;e.g.,mercurycolumn(s)moveinthewrongdirection.Note18212;Thequalityoftheresultproducedbythisstandardisdependentofthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingitandthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting,sampling,inspection,etc..UsersofthisstandardarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfassurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thesetestmethodscoverlaboratorymeasurementofthehydraulicconductivity(alsoreferredtoascoefficientofpermeability)ofwater-saturatedporousmaterialswithaflexiblewallpermeameterattemperaturesbetweenabout15and30x00B0;C(59and86x00B0;F).Temperaturesoutsidethisrangemaybeused;however,theuserwouldhavetodeterminethespecificgravityofmercuryandRT(see10.3)atthosetemperaturesusingdatafromHandbookofChemistryandPhysics.Therearesixalternatemethodsorhydraulicsystemsthatmaybeusedtomeasurethehydraulicconductivity.Thesehydraulicsystemsareasfollows:
